Whole body cryotherapy-three levels of impact
The word "cryotherapy" is of Greek origin: "cryo" = cold, "therapeia" = cure. Cryotherapy is therefore a therapeutic health treatment involving extremely low temperatures (below-130oC/below-266oF). Modern "whole body cryotherapy" (WBC), also known as "air cryotherapy" (ACT) and "cryotherapy", is rooted in the practice of Dr. Yamaguchi in Japan, who began using short-term cryotherapy on the surface of the skin of rheumatoid arthritis patients in 1978 to manage pain. With these cryosurgery, Dr. Yamaguchi found that he could significantly reduce the soreness and pain that patients usually feel when operating the joints, because a rapid decrease in the temperature of the outer layer of the skin leads to an immediate release of endorphins and therefore a reduced sensitivity to pain.
